Media outlets around the world went crazy over a 5th grade math exam question in China. But they all missed the real story! The problem actually dates back to French researchers in 1979. In this video I present the real story to the viral "Chinese" captain's age question.
Update thanks to comment from Markus Schüt: the origin dates back to 1841 in a letter Flaubert wrote! See:

It can take an impressive trip from Washington DC all the way to tokyo with just one tank of gas. The head of state can making it across the world, flying in style, making other countries envious in its path. You’ll never believe the ways the president is pimpin’ out his person plane and it can survive an apocalypse if it has to. From various firepower being kept on board to decoys used to confuse possible enemies, here are unbelievable secrets of Air Force One.

12. Nuclear Resistance
The government has taken special precautions in case of a full-blown nuclear apocalypse and air force one would prove to be a formidable stronghold. In the event that this were ever to happen the plane’s body is built to withstand a nuke detonated from the ground. Thanks to armor plating, as long as the president is not too close to the actual blast, radiation exposure wouldn’t be able to seep through by any means.
So there are some notable differences between commercial boeing 747’s and the ones the president uses. The weight difference is about a total of 154, 000 pounds, weighing in at 987, 000 pounds. which means you know there’s some heavy cargo on there. The difference between the normal wingspan and the presidential wingspan is about 29 feet with the presidential version stretching longer, measuring at 224 feet and 5 inches. In addition, it’s also longer measure from the nose to rear at 250 feet and 2 inches making it also the longest commercial jet in the world. Let’s see the chinese try to beat that!
The president just can’t go around every country he wants to and spew a bunch of toxic pollution into the air just because he’s the president, can he? In any case, we at least tell other countries that our presidential jumbo jet is completely eco friendly and emits 16 tons less co2 per trip over the typical 747-200. That would require about 13 acres of american national park forests to purify that much each year.
9. Let’s make Air Force One Great Again
There have been some ideas to make air force one look just a little bit more american with a new cool patriotic paint job, complete with stars, stripes, bald eagles and all that good stuff. The ceo of america would also prefer that the beds be a little bit more comfortable like the ones in his personal jet. The new air force one with these upgrades will likely be ready in 2021 and cost about 4 billion dollars. Others still think his dream jet likely won’t happen.
Sometimes presidents won’t want to go anywhere without the right fresh beer on board. A long time ago, Coors wasn’t available for sale on the eastern side of the US states and that was Gerald ford’s favorite beer. In order to make sure he was able to get a little drunk on a plane, he would continually request his secret service members to bring some with him. Each time they went to colorado, they would stock up on coors before going anywhere.
Yamaha has been hard at work on its autonomous Motobot racing bike, and this year, the company was confident enough to pit its creation against one of the best riders around.
Yamaha's Motobot goals for 2017 are twofold: Achieve a straight-line speed of 200 kph (124 mph) and beat Valentino Rossi — a seven-time MotoGP champion — in a lap around a racetrack. After accomplishing the first task, Yamaha set out to nail the second. Sadly, it was still about 30 seconds off Rossi's time, but it's getting there and that's the most important part.
The craziest part about Motobot is that the bike itself is unmodified from the factory. It's the humanoid robot atop the bike that manipulates the stock controls. Its six actuators are capable of shifting and accelerating around a track as its computers analyze all manner of data, whether it's engine speed or attitude.
Yamaha wants to use machine learning to have the robot "learn" the best lines and approaches as it tears down the track, with the eventual goal being a robot that's capable of besting the most accomplished human riders. Eventually

8. Pit Bull Terrier
There’s a bit of confusion about where exactly the pit bull was bred and what it was bred for but most believe it was originally bred to “bait” bulls. And then in the 1800s, baiting became banned so the dogs were bred for a new sport: ratting and dog fighting.
7. Canary Mastiff
This is the Canary Mastiff, or the Perro de Presa Canario—a dog originally bred for working livestock. Their roots come from Spain and their name literally translates to “Canarian catch dog”. The breed was first introduced by Dr. Carl Semencic, an American anthropologist who wrote an article for Dog World Magazine and his books about the subject of rare breeds of dogs.
6. Japanese Tosa
The Tosa was a crossbreed of different European dog breeds including the Old English Bulldog, the Mastiff, St. Bernard, German Pointer, Great Dane and Bull Terrier. The idea was to create a larger, more powerful dog and between 1924 and 1933 the Tosa was created.
5. Brazilian Mastiff
The Brazilian Mastiff, or the Fila Brasileiro was originally created to be a hunting dog—doing well on ranches and plantations. It would guard estates and hunt big game animals like jaguars, but it also worked well around the farm and was able to “catch” individual cattle by grabbing hold of its neck for Brazilian ranchers.
4. Staffordshire Bull Terrier
This breed was created in the mid-19th century in Britain to be a small and fast dog fighter. If I saw one of these coming toward me on the street and off leash I would probably turn around, but owners swear these are the most sensitive and loving companions of the dog world.
3. Rhodesian Ridgeback
The Rhodesian Ridgeback is a majestic breed created in Africa to be both a versatile hunter and a guardian for the home. These dogs tend to be highly intelligent, stubborn with a significant amount of energy. You’ll be able to quickly identify this breed by the ridge which runs down their spine.
2. German Shepherd
I know many people who swear they will never own another type of dog besides a German Shepherd. It’s one of America’s most popular dog breeds but is it also a dangerous one? First, let’s talk about the good stuff. The German Shepherd is highly intelligent and his devotion and companionship are like none other.
The Rottweiler is another versatile breed which was created to do multiple things. It could do everything from driving cattle to market and then later pulling carts for butchers. They were also some of the earliest police and military dogs.

Everyone makes mistakes, and they make us learn faster. This is even truer, perhaps, for masters of their trade, whose errors may remain unnoticed for many years and result in calamity. Frankly speaking, an error on the White House is one of our favorites. What about you?

Civil engineering is one of the oldest engineering discipline. It deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including: roads, bridges, tunnels, buildings etc. We mean — engineers do make our life easier.
That's why we at Smart is the New Sexy really appreciate the hard work of all engineers. But just like other people they tend to make mistakes, don’t they?
Today, we collected a bunch of such fails that will make you scratch your head twice and question how any of these people earned their degree.
At the end of the video, there is a bonus waiting for you. It will reveal a great life hack on how to make a flat screen TV set out of a regular TV box.
