Elevated bus debuts at Beijing International High-Tech Expo

Май 22, 2016

A model of a Transit Elevated Bus (TEB) debuted at the 19th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo, which concluded on Sunday. The TEB is a purely homegrown invention of China, with its passenger compartment sitting above other vehicles on the road below, allowing cars to pass underneath. The TEB is designed to increase the utilization of road space.

"With a carrying capacity of 1, 200 people at a time, the TEB has the same functions as the subway while its cost of construction is less than one fifth of the subway. Its construction can be finished in one year, " said Bai Zhiming, the engineer in charge of the TEB project.

Trial operations of such a bus will start in Qinhuangdao City, north China's Hebei Province, in the second half of 2016.

Futuristic straddling bus allows cars running underneath

Tired of traffic jams and tail gas? The design of electric "straddling buses" lets cars drive underneath them, and can help reduce air pollution. Also known as land airbus, the new invention is less costly than subway systems.

It would be about 20 feet wide and 13 feet high. The bus that will drive over cars. Cars have to be under 2 meters high to travel underneath the upper level carrying passengers.

Are they hiding good ideas from the public to protect Detroit and the auto industry? Lets move forward.

A model of a Transit Elevated Bus (TEB) debuted at the ongoing 19th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo.

TEB is a purely homegrown invention of China. Its passenger compartment rises far above other vehicles on the road, allowing cars to pass underneath, which will largely increase the utilization of road space.

"With a carrying capacity of 1, 200 people at a time, the TEB has the same functions as the subway while its cost of construction is less than one fifth that of the subway. Its construction can be finished in one year, " said Bai Zhiming, engineer in charge of the TEB project.

The first test of such bus is planned to start trail operation in Qinhuangdao City, north China's Hebei Province, in the second half of 2016.

The expo is held from May 18 to 22.

Spinning class on wheels: London gym to convert commuter bus into roving spin class - TomoNews

LONDON — British exercise studio 1Rebel hopes to run commuter buses in London that double as mobile spin classes. The idea is to combine morning commutes with exercise, helping gym members to save time.

1Rebel has yet to receive regulatory approval for the idea. The company is in talks with several bus companies about converting buses into mobile spin studios.

1Rebel envisions as many as four bus routes that terminate at its centrally located studio in London. The buses would pick up gym members along the route. Exercise enthusiasts would spin their way through rush hour traffic and could then shower at the 1Rebel studio before heading to the office.

1Rebel says it might price the 45-minute classes between 12 and 15 British pounds.

2:4 China’s elevated bus actually a huge scam, government says - TomoNews

China’s elevated bus actually a huge scam, government says - TomoNews

QINHUANGDAO, CHINA — China’s much-hyped elevated bus which last week completed a test run in the northern city of Qinhuangdao, Hebei province, may not just be impractical and unfeasible, as critics say. Several Chinese state media outlets now say the whole thing was an illegally funded project aimed at scamming investors.

China’s Global Times tabloid also attacked the thing’s designer for having only an elementary school education.

Nevertheless, this animation depicts the thing and explains some of its attributes.

The Transit Elevated Bus, or TEB, is 22 meters long, 7.8 meters wide and can carry up to 300 passengers.

It runs on rails laid on ordinary roads and occupies two traffic lanes. Passengers board the bus through an elevated bus stop.

It is powered by both solar power and electricity. Through a technology called relay charging, the bus receives electricity as it enters a bus station.

The TEB straddles the road 2 meters above the ground, which allows smaller vehicles to pass below.

It is equipped with sensors on its front, rear and sides to warn vehicles to not get too close and large vehicles to not pass below.

The TEB Development Company says one bus could replace 40 conventional buses and could save 2, 640 tons of carbon emissions.

Four buses could be linked together and operate in a train-like manner. The bus can reach a top speed of 60 kilometers per hour.

However, the bus can only run on a mostly straight track and is unable to perform sharp turns.

Although last week’s test received wide media coverage, the thing only traveled 300 meters at a slow speed, and without traffic beneath it. What’s more, the city didn’t even know about the test, let alone approve it.

So this elevated bus, which is actually a train, may never get off the ground.
